Sponsorship Officers
Sponsorship allows the Conference to happen and greatly increases the amount available to delegates during the week. The portfolio contains conventional sponsorship (local firms and companies, government, and universities), product sponsorship (gaining product donations from businesses), and grant applications.
Skills needed for the role include: persistence, professional demeanour, ingenuity, time management, and organisation.
Activities Subcommittee
Activities are the heart of the conference and include organising massive nights out (dinners, cocktail night, and a themed night), after parties, and day trips. When applying for the activities subcommittee, please mention which area(s) most interest you.
Skills needed for the role include: creativity, persistence, and organisation.
Competitions Subcommittee
Competitions are the reason most delegates come to the conference and the subcommittee is responsible for the big task of organising the national finals. The seven competitions (ALSA Moot, Negotiation, Witness Examination, Client Interviewing, Paper Presentation, IHL Moot, and Kirby Cup) need judges, problem questions, volunteers (witnesses and clients), rooms, rules, and someone to ensure they are all in right place at the right time.
The subcommittee consists of individual coordinators for each of the competitions as well as a Competitions Secretary (who takes care of the administration of the role), a Judges Coordinator (who is responsible for securing Judges), and a Volunteer Coordinator (who is responsible for securing and coordinating volunteers). Please indicate which areas you are interested in on your nomination form.
Skills needed for the role include: persistence, organisation, time management, professional demeanour, and a basic understanding of legal competitions. Competition organising experience is not required.
Fundraising Subcommittee
The Fundraising team is responsible for raising as much money for the conference as possible! This can come in many forms from BBQs or soup days to quiz nights and pub crawls. The portfolio is very flexible and open – any ideas will be welcomed!
Skills needed for the role include: creativity, ingenuity, availability, and organisation.
Publications Editors
Publications includes a number of mediums: the website, enews, posters, official drafting (letters and invitations), guidebooks, and the handbooks used during the conference. The Editors can take any part of the production process: design, writing, drafting, printing, or distribution and you just need the skills for that process.
